Nineteen Years

Nineteen years ago today, shortly before midnight, I was settling down for my first night ever in Guatemala.  It was way before the days of easy $10 airport shuttles and traveling between Guatemala City and Antigua, and travel to my hotel would have either involved a series of city buses (far too daunting for a novice) or a taxi ride with a driver who may or may not have been someone you could trust.  But I was in luck.  Back home in Norwalk I had just met a friend of a friend who was involved with a non-profit in Guatemala…

Transitions

You’d think that after all these years I’d be used to it, the process of getting from Connecticut to Guatemala.  Finishing up the projects I’ve been working on, frantically tying up a million loose ends, packing 250 pounds of luggage (literally), the last minute running around, saying goodbye to everyone …
